One of the more common problems people can have with their toenails is for the nails to become discolored.
They may also become thickened and brittle. When a nail starts to appear this way, it may be due to a fungus infection.
It is important to know that there are many things that can cause nails to become thick and discolored and fungus is only one of the causes.
The first and most important step when treating nail fungus is to make sure that the changes in the nail were caused by a fungus. Before Dr Brody prescribes a treatment for nail fungus, he recommends that a sample of toenail be sent to a laboratory, and we confirm that a fungus is present and know what type of fungus is infecting the nail.
Once we know the cause of the changes in the nail, a treatment plan can be tailored to each patient. Each person is different, and the cause of changes in the toenails can be different. Dr Brody does not believe in a “One Size Fits All” approach to thick discolored to nails and will develop a plan that is right for each patient to achieve the best possible results.
